ATLAS OF CLIMATE ADAPTATION IN SOUTH ASIAN AGRICULTURE

Given the escalating climate-related threats, it's crucial to pinpoint the spatial and temporal vulnerabilities that could affect agriculture. To counteract these challenges, we require adaptation strategies. In light of this urgency, the Borlaug Institute for South Asia (BISA), with backing from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF), collaborates with national agricultural research systems across South Asia. Together, they aim to craft the Atlas of Climate Adaptation in South Asian Agriculture (ACASA).

South Asia, being a focal point for climate change impacts, calls for concerted action both within and among nations in the region to enhance the resilience of agriculture and livelihoods against the adverse effects of climate change. This includes addressing the escalating frequency and severity of extreme weather events, escalating temperatures, and shifting precipitation patterns.

Initiated through an inception workshop held from April 25th to 27th, 2023, in New Delhi, India, this project is funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF) and coordinated by the Borlaug Institute for South Asia (BISA). It represents a collaborative endeavor involving BISA, the Indian Council of Agricultural Research, the Bangladesh Agricultural Research Council, the Nepal Agricultural Research Council, and the Sri Lanka Department of Agriculture.

The project's objective is to pinpoint climate change-induced risks and prioritize adaptation strategies at a localized level to facilitate scalable adaptation efforts.
